Le Marché de l'Haÿ-les-Roses is a modern market hall on the historic site of the original outdoor market, sitting along the Paris greenbelt and within easy reach of the town centre. The 1,900m² hall brings together 40 food stalls, a casual market area along the service zone, and a restaurant on the upper floor overlooking the market activity below. Positioned at the crossroads of the town's main roads, the building welcomes visitors under an inviting and well-opened outdoor covered space.
A landmark for l'Haÿ-les-Roses
Delivered as a design & build project with the contractor Bouygues Bâtiments Ouvrages Publics, Le Marché de l’Haÿ-les-Roses is more than a market. It is intended as the landmark of the town’s regeneration, a building that announces its ambition and gives the community a genuinely new kind of civic space. At €13 million and 1,900m², it proves that projects of this quality and purpose do not require vast scale to make a lasting impact.
Zero waste by design
Sustainability is at the heart of the design. Le Marché de l’Haÿ-les-Roses operates as an exemplary zero-waste site, featuring photovoltaic panels, a rainwater collection tank, natural ventilation throughout the building, and EV charging stations around the site. A compactor room reduces truck movements, and the construction carefully preserved several existing trees on site. The surrounding public spaces have also been reimagined, with a walking path and a new cycle route connecting the market along the wider Greenbelt corridor.
Through its positioning, Le Marché de l’Haÿ-les-Roses creates a strong architectural landmark, respectful of its surroundings. The town sought to restore the prestige of traditional 19th-century “Baltard-style” market halls. The design comprises two volumes: a main pavilion, topped with a roof lantern, welcomes visitors under a generous porch, while a succession of sheds follows the site’s triangular form. Structural lightness, elegant arched façades, and a glass-and-metal materiality stand out along the main roads.
