Blinkpoint, Southwark
Client / Blinkpoint Ltd
A new £15m, 80,000 square foot office and residential development between London Bridge station and Tate Modern.
The brief / Greig & Stephenson was asked to design a high quality ‘landmark’ building that would fulfil 21st century commercial and residential needs in this up and coming area.
The context / The site is in the heart of the rapidly expanding Bankside area of Southwark, on the southern bank of the Thames. A prime location already, it will be even more desirable once linked to the City of London by a new bridge, Cannon Walkway. The unremarkable 1980s building on the site had been underused for some years, so planners gave total redevelopment the green light.
What we did / Our team came up with a cutting edge design for a brand new, and larger, building on the site. The structure is a concrete frame with post-tensioned concrete floors and a curved mansard roof.
Impact / The potential of this site has been optimised, with available space increased from 25,000 to 80,000 square feet. G&S has created an infrastructure that is robust and flexible enough to accommodate changes in the property market and changes in the number of tenants over time. For the first time, there is a building of style and character on this key site.
