Marks & Spencer, Malvern, UK
Client / Marks & Spencer plc
The brief / Marks & Spencer asked Greig & Stephenson to extend an existing ground floor unit in Malvern Retail Park in Worcestershire to form a new M&S store of 44,000 sq ft with trading space of 31,000 sq ft.
What we did / The original single floor unit was only 22,000 sq ft so we added a mezzanine level to double the size of the store. Greig & Stephenson took the scheme through feasibility and design development, and were subsequently nominated to work with Wates Retail for detailed design and implementation. On the ground floor, the store features women's wear, a Per Una concession and an 8,000 sq ft food hall. The first floor has M&S Home, menswear, kids, lingerie and a 2,000 sq ft Café Revive.
The impact / In June 2008, Greig & Stephenson successfully delivered this first store for M&S and at a recent Marks & Spencer Construction Forum, this project was described as a model ‘snag free` scheme. Greig & Stephenson has now moved on to further work with this client.
