Client / ING Real Estate, Hungary
A new town centre destination for the heart of Buda.
The brief / Greig & Stephenson was asked by ING Real Estate to join their jury in Budapest to adjudicate on the architectural competition entries they had received in the Summer of 2006. The final two entries were both from well known UK commercial architectural practices and the decision was agreed to appoint Chapman Taylor as the new centre's master planners. One year later Greig & Stephenson was appointed as retail and interior architects for the 300m euro centre which is a mixed development of retail, cinema and supermarket, with a further mix of uses including offices, residential and car parking.
What we are doing / The retail component is on three levels above ground anchor tenants including Marks & Spencer, C&A, P&C, H&M, Zara and Zara Home. Beneath, the underground levels accommodate an Inter Spa supermarket and parking for 1200 cars, arranged on 3 levels. The development includes a 400 seat food court and a Cinema City multiplex for an audience of 1800. Greig & Stephenson was responsible for the environmental and interior design, finishes, lighting, and graphics of the entire retail heart of the development. The centre opened November 2009.
