Brew Wharf Yard was granted planning permission in February 2009 and opens up a new pedestrian route from Brew Wharf that runs along the east side of the railway viaduct to Park Street.
This will bring back into use the under-used or redundant buildings to create shops, bars and restaurants.
Southwark's head of design & conservation Michael Tsoukaris described the design as 'a modern reinterpretation of the character of the area'.
The new route and link improves the permiability of this vibrant, central area.
The project is now in the design stage and is due to start on site in 2010 with completion in 2011.
