Vinopolis Yard, Less than one month away from completion, London - September 2011
Greig & Stephenson is adding further to the vibrant thoroughfare of Borough Market with the creation of Vinopolis Yard. Overall completion is expected next month. The project adds a new pedestrian route from Brew Wharf running along the east side of the railway viaduct to Park Street.
The scheme, which received planning permission in February 2009, will bring back into use the site's under-used or redundant buildings. We are developing a new bakery, restaurant and shopping boulevard (due to open in Spring 2012) as well as setting the scene for a planned wine-focused and gourmet market.
Southwark's head of design and conservation, Michael Tsoukaris, described the design as 'a modern reinterpretation of the character of the area'. The new route and link improves the permeability of this central area.
